Digital Product Passport Machine Tools Project Details

Abstract

The transition towards Industry 5.0, sustainable manufacturing paradigms, and the European Digital Product Passport (DPP) initiative necessitates advanced information management for modern machine tools. These tools are evolving into complex cyber-physical systems that generate continuous technological, operational, and diagnostic data throughout their lifecycle. Integrating a DPP into manufacturing systems is crucial for ensuring comprehensive traceability, enhancing sustainability, fostering adaptability, and enabling efficient lifecycle management. This research aims to develop a robust conceptual and practical framework for a Digital Product Passport specifically tailored for machine tools. This framework is envisioned as an integrated information core designed to support sustainable manufacturing engineering, facilitate lifecycle-oriented traceability, and inform technological decision-making within Industry 5.0

environments. The methodology involves system analysis, lifecycle-oriented engineering principles, digital manufacturing concepts, and information-flow modeling. A structured mathematical representation is proposed to manage technological information exchange between machine tool modules, parameters, monitoring systems, and decision-making units. The framework integrates diverse technologies, including CAD/CAM/CAE environments, QR-based identification, sensor data acquisition, cloud-oriented information support, and Alicona-based surface metrology in accordance with ISO 25178, culminating in a hierarchical DPP architecture.
