Distributed Real-Time Monitoring Systems Smart Project Details

Abstract

The current systems used for public streetlight infrastructure lack operational efficiencies in terms of monitoring and control, which leads to increased costs and decreased reliability. This research seeks to understand how a distributed multi-parameter monitoring system using low-power wireless technology can improve reliability and scalability to public street lighting as an alternative to centralized solutions. The system proposed here incorporates electrical and environmental sensors along with advanced remote control and scheduling capabilities, distributed via a wireless monitoring network for every single streetlight. With this integration, real-time monitoring will facilitate remote control access for every streetlight. Experimental assessments confirmed the wireless network could maintain consistent connectivity over 100-meter distances without data

packet loss, proving it ideal for a variety of sensor monitoring applications. Additionally, the wireless network demonstrated outstanding performance and communication reliability in real-time monitoring interventions. Results demonstrate that synergetic integration of the multi-parameter sensing and mesh wireless communications system real-time data exchange and direct node operational controls within smart street lighting systems. This approach best addresses the current challenges to the performance and sustainability of urban lighting systems.
