Integrated Enzymatic Fermentative Pathways Next-Generation Project Details

Abstract

This M.Tech project focuses on developing integrated bioprocesses for producing next-generation biosurfactants sustainably. It aims to tackle the bioproduction problems of high production costs, low productivity, and challenging downstream processes, as well as the limitations of surfactants sourced from petrochemicals. A primary approach will be the integration of enzymatic catalysis with microbial fermentation to achieve biosurfactants with tailored structures and improved functionalities. Fermentation biosurfactant production will evaluate lipases, glycosyltransferases, acyltransferases, and oxidoreductases to control biosurfactant amphiphilicity. Also, advanced process engineering methods like continuous fermentation, in situ product recovery, and process control via machine learning will be assessed to enhance productivity and lower energy costs. The research intends to optimize bioprocess

design parameters to inform industrial scale-up evaluations for the integrated bioprocesses to advance the sustainable production of biosurfactants.
