| Abstract |
This M.Tech project aims towards the design, construction, and eventual use of a 3D-printed bioreactor that is designed to create a controlled microenvironment that is vascularized. The main aim is to perform ex-vivo studies on how leukemia cells move and use a platform that allows modeling of the disease. The plan is to use state-of-the-art additive manufacturing processes to create a bioreactor that can replicate parts of the human body like the blood vessels and can control fluid flow. The goal of the bioreactor is to create models that can be used to study the interactions of cells and how they move in all types of blood cancers. This study
will include choosing and describing biocompatible materials that 3D print well and will be used to build the vascular network of the model, and developing an advanced pump to control the flow of nutrients and waste in the model to duplicate the conditions found in the body. The model of the microenvironment created by the project will be evaluated using imaging studies and functional assays, and then it will be assessed to determine how well it supports the growth of leukemia cells and how well the cells move in response to the stimuli in order to develop advanced ex-vivo models to understand the leukemia better and evaluate therapeutic options.
