Structural Response Assessment High-Rise Buildings Project Details
| Abstract |
This research analyzes the structural response and human comfort for tall buildings developed under varying wind load conditions using multiple analysis techniques and design suggestions. The study focuses on the decomposition of wind velocity components and describes the mean component using the Brazilian standard NBR 6123 and through numerical simulation using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). For the fluctuating wind velocity component, the Spectral Representation Method (SRM) is employed. A case study is demonstrated for a 100 m high reinforced concrete building, for which a numerical analysis with the Finite Element Method (FEM) is performed in ANSYS. It was found that for the methodologies used, dynamic response variation was approximately 10%
for displacements and 5% for accelerations. While maximum displacements and Root Mean Square (RMS) accelerations remained below the limits of comfort, peak accelerations surpassed the criteria for residential building occupants. This study enhances knowledge regarding the consideration of various wind load assessment methods and their implications in the design of high-rise buildings and in the comfort of occupants.
