Motivations Digital Product Passports Complexity is a M.Tech project topic for Environmental Engineering. It gives students a clear starting point for research, implementation planning, and documentation.
Motivations Digital Product Passports Complexity Project Details
| Abstract |
The Digital Product Passport (DPP) has been introduced as a requirement of the Ecodesign Sustainable Product Regulation. DPPs aim to improve circularity and transparency throughout the various stages of a productβs life. While DPPs aim to improve consumer choice in purchasing sustainable products, the processes that improve consumer adoption of DPPs have yet to be studied. This study focuses on two contrasting types of motivation that influence DPPs: the ease or simplicity of using the DPP and the sustainable impact of the DPP. Using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) as the framework for this study, we conducted an empirical study with 117 participants from
Germany. This study applied a variance-based structural equation model (SEM). The results show that both the utilitarian and prosocial mechanisms significantly affect behavioral intention, but through different mechanisms. More specifically, the simplicity and ease of the DPP impacts the anticipated effort, while the sustainable impact of the DPP influences the expected performance, the social impact, and the emotional motivation to act. These results provide greater insight on consumer behavior with DPPs to help companies create DPPs that are consumer-friendly.
