| Abstract |
This M.Tech project is focused on creating an Internet of Things (IoT) based framework for the real-time detection of levels of fruit ripeness for the purpose of cutting post-harvest losses in the food supply chain. The framework provides an answer to the problem of loss during the transportation and storage of fruits through the monitoring of the environment in which the fruits are stored. The system structure includes a multi-sensor system to monitor the environment in which the fruits are stored, such as temperature, ethylene, and carbon dioxide (CO2) levels. The data collection and primary processing are done through a Raspberry Pi Pico W processor. The system also has a
modified Peltier module for cooling and an optimized Battery (via an algorithm) controller to help maintain the fruits. The main element of the framework is a dashboard for monitoring the ripeness of the fruits. This gives the vendors and managers of the fruits the ability to make decisions based on the real-time data of the conditions of the fruits. The first tests done on the system, mainly bananas, demonstrated that the system has high efficiency in shelf life, low loss of food, and high efficiency in the food supply.
