Life Cycle Analysis GRAND Experiment is a M.Tech project topic for Environmental Engineering. It gives students a clear starting point for research, implementation planning, and documentation.
Life Cycle Analysis GRAND Experiment Project Details
| Abstract |
This project evaluates the environmental impact of large scientific facilities by doing a full Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the prototype detection units for the Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection (GRAND). The functional unit is autonomous radioβsignal detection over a 20βyear service life for 300 units spread over 200 kmΒ² in Gansu Province, China. The study looks at four lifeβcycle stages: – material extraction and production – transportation – operation – endβofβlife disposal We use the Idemat2021 database for the inventory analysis and calculate indicators such as carbon footprint, resource depletion, and acidification. The results show that the biggest sources of environmental damage are the antenna structures and the
electronic assemblies. By focusing on these parts, the project offers clear guidance for ecoβdesign improvements, material substitution, and sustainable decommissioning for future astroparticleβphysics experiments. This approach helps bring environmental considerations into the early design stage of largeβscale scientific instruments.
