Influence Inverter Open Circuit Fault Project Details
| Abstract |
This project studies how open‑circuit faults in the inverter affect permanent‑magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives that use vector control. Open‑circuit faults differ from short‑circuit faults: they often let the machine keep running in a limp‑home mode, which is hard to notice right away but creates long‑term thermal and mechanical stress. To examine these effects, we build a hybrid logic‑dynamic model that captures the transient phase currents for different fault combinations. We also create a coupled system‑level model of the inverter and motor to see how four specific open‑circuit fault modes change electrical parameters, magnetic‑field distribution, rotor speed, electromagnetic torque, and system losses. In addition, we set up a three‑dimensional global
temperature model that links electromagnetic and thermal behavior in both directions. This model tracks how the stator windings and permanent magnets heat up and what temperature limits they reach during faults. The work provides detailed modeling guidance and simulation structures for studying the multiphysics behavior of PMSM drives, helping to design fault‑tolerant control, diagnostic algorithms, and thermal protection for safety‑critical applications.
