Remediation MCPA contaminated soils bacterial Project Details
| Abstract |
This research looks at how to improve bioaugmentation for cleaning soils polluted with the herbicide 2βmethylβ4βchlorophenoxyacetic acid (MCPA). We will test bacterial biofilms that are immobilized on different carrier materialsβraw oysterβshell powder, pozzolana, and zeoliteβto create very stable biocomposites. To help the biofilms grow and stay active, we will modify the carrier surfaces with layered double hydroxides (LDH). LDH adds positively charged layers of hydroxylated metal ions and hydrated interlayers that supply nutrients and trace elements needed by the microbes. The project will study how fast MCPA breaks down under various soil conditions, compare the performance of modified carriers to unmodified ones, and evaluate the physicalβchemical stability of the biocomposites.
By using a systematic experimental plan and analytical testing, the work will give guidance on making bioaugmentation more efficient in land ecosystems. The goal is to create a solid framework for choosing and tweaking natural carrier materials so that pesticide degradation is maximized while environmental toxicity is kept low.
