portable iot solar remote laboratory energy Project Details
| Abstract |
This project describes a portable, IoTβenabled remote lab that helps students learn about solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The design combines three parts: a physical hardware kit, an offline mathβsimulation app, and an online remoteβexperiment platform. In the offline app, students can model the nonβlinear currentβvoltage (IβV) curve of a PV panel, see how irradiance and temperature affect performance, and find the best tilt angle. The hardware kit uses an ESP32 microcontroller so users can change realβworld parameters from a distance. They can adjust lamp brightness to mimic solar irradiance, set fan speed for active cooling, rotate the panel, and create partial shading. Sensors on the kit measure voltage, current, temperature,
and power in real time. The data are sent to a MATLAB graphical user interface, which draws live IβV and powerβvoltage (PβV) curves. By linking the simulation with the physical setup, the lab connects theory and realβworld behavior. The system is lowβcost, scalable, and supports multiple users. It lets students repeat experiments and test solar energy conversion under many different conditions.
