solid waste management problems solutions types Project Details
| Abstract |
This research project reports an empirical study of municipal solidβwaste management in the Okpoko community, with a focus on environmental and publicβhealth problems. Rapid urban growth and poor infrastructure have pushed residents to use unsustainable disposal methods, mainly open landfilling and uncontrolled openβair burning. To assess these practices and their impacts, a detailed field survey collected both quantitative and qualitative data from local households. The data were analyzed with Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The analysis shows a clear link between current disposal methodsβespecially open burningβand higher local airβpollution levels, indicating serious health risks. Based on the results, the study examines moving
from traditional landfilling to integrated wasteβmanagement approaches, highlighting the practicality of recycling and materialβrecovery systems. The findings give municipal officials a dataβdriven framework for creating wasteβmanagement policies, improving resource recovery, and reducing environmental damage in developing urban areas.
