innovative composite materials improving structural integrity Project Details
| Abstract |
Traditional building materials like steel and concrete have big drawbacks. They corrode or crack when exposed to the environment, need a lot of upkeep, and donβt last as long as weβd like. This research looks at using advanced compositesβespecially fiberβreinforced polymers (FRP)βto make civilβengineering parts stronger and longerβlasting. FRP offers a high strengthβtoβweight ratio, excellent resistance to corrosion, and a better fatigue life, so it can replace conventional reinforcement methods. We tested the mechanical performance, durability under accelerated aging, and overall structural behavior of FRPβreinforced elements. The tests included laboratory experiments and finiteβelement simulations. A lifecycleβcost analysis was also performed to show the economic advantage of fewer maintenance cycles and
a longer service life. The results give clear guidance on how to design, test, and model composite materials for both repairing existing structures and building new ones, helping engineers create more sustainable and resilient infrastructure.
