tailoring electrochemically exfoliated graphene electroactive pathways Project Details
| Abstract |
This project studies how to make and test cementβbased composites that can sense themselves, using electrochemically exfoliated graphene (EEG) for structural health monitoring. Because nanomaterials tend to clump and the way electricity moves through cement is not well understood, a poly(carboxylate ether) superplasticizer is added. This allows a uniform spread of up to 0.8 wt % EEG in the mortar. We then examine how this high EEG content affects the cementβs hydration speed, mechanical strength, and microstructure. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is used to look at how conductive networks and chargeβtransfer paths develop. Electrical behavior is captured by measuring resistivity and capacitance at the EEGβcement interfaces, linking mechanical strain to
changes in impedance. The results give a clear method for modeling the piezoresistive and capacitive response of smart concrete under dynamic loading. This provides a solid framework for realβtime damage detection, vibration monitoring, and strain sensing in civil infrastructure.
