openpisco open-source software platform shape topology Project Details
| Abstract |
This project studies how to implement and test OpenPisco, an openβsource software platform for structural shape and topology optimization. We use the levelβset method together with traditional shapeβsensitivity analysis to repeatedly find the best material layout inside a given design space. By calculating shape gradients, the software finds a direction that reduces the objective and updates the structureβs boundary while meeting physical, geometric, and manufacturing limits. Our focus is on linking finiteβelement analysis solvers with levelβset propagation algorithms so the method can handle complex boundary conditions and interfaces between different materials. Systematic numerical tests are run to evaluate the performance, scalability, and convergence of the optimization algorithms under various mechanical
loading scenarios. The work provides practical help and guidance for evaluating openβsource optimization frameworks, offering a clear approach to studying sensitivityβbased levelβset methods in structural design. It also compares the computational speed of levelβset propagation with traditional densityβbased topology optimization, serving as a technical reference for CAD/CAE integration.
