Analysis Bit Rate vs SNR Project Details
| Abstract |
Free Space Optical (FSO) communication systems offer a highβbandwidth, licenseβfree alternative to traditional radioβfrequency links, but atmospheric turbulence causes fading that seriously hurts performance. This project provides research direction and implementation support for evaluating the bit error rate (BER) and signalβtoβnoise ratio (SNR) of several channelβcoding techniques under different atmospheric conditions. Using MATLABβbased simulations, the study models turbulence with a logβnormal distribution for weak turbulence and a gammaβgamma distribution for moderateβtoβstrong turbulence. The performance of single coding schemesβ – convolutional coding, – lowβdensity parityβcheck (LDPC) coding, and – trellisβcoded modulation (TCM) β is systematically compared with a concatenated coding architecture. The evaluation seeks the coding configuration that gives the highest
achievable bit rate while requiring the lowest SNR for various scintillation indices. The simulation framework serves as a practical guide for designing robust optical wireless links and shows that concatenated coding schemes provide better errorβcorrection capability and reduce multipath fading effects in turbulent FSO channels.
