Experimental Study Uniaxial Compression Mechanics Project Details

Abstract

This research project looks at how surface‑cracked rock behaves and fails under uniaxial compression. Surface‑fractured rock serves as a typical three‑dimensional fracture case, so we develop a mechanical failure model that includes crack initiation, propagation, and the combined deformation of rock micro‑elements. Standard rock specimens are prepared with horizontal surface fissures of different depths. Using the RMT rock‑mechanics test system, we run systematic uniaxial compression tests on these samples. The complete stress‑strain curves reveal how fissure depth affects overall rock strength, elasticity, and deformation. The project also guides students through the progressive failure modes, crack‑propagation paths, and final collapse mechanisms of non‑through fractures. By linking the experimental stress‑strain data to

micro‑element deformation theory, this framework supports research in underground engineering, rock‑slope stability, and geotechnical hazard mitigation, providing a solid method for evaluating the stability of damaged rock masses.
