Implementation Energy Efficient Advanced Metering Project Details
| Abstract |
This research builds an energyβefficient Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) that can help with Demand Side Management (DSM) and peakβshaving in todayβs smart grids. Instead of relying only on computer simulations, we created a physical hardware system. The core of the system is an **Arduino Mega2560** microcontroller that connects to accurate voltage and current sensors. These sensors measure, in real time, the following electrical parameters at a fixed sampling rate: – RMS voltage – RMS current – Power factor – Active power – Total energy consumption Each smart meter sends its data wirelessly to an edgeβcomputing deviceβa **Raspberry Pi 4**βusing WiβFi modems. The Raspberry Pi aggregates the data locally, calculates metrics
such as the average household energy use, and then forwards the processed information to a central server, which can be onβsite or remote. All system integration, data acquisition, and signalβprocessing tasks are handled in **MATLABβSimulink**, which provides realβtime visualization and analysis. This setup gives a solid platform for: – testing AMI performance with edge computing, – validating hardwareβinβtheβloop data aggregation, and – optimizing the communication load in smartβgrid deployments.
