pollution monitoring with nanoscaled materials in chemoresistive Project Details

Abstract

This project provides implementation support and component guidance for developing an air pollution monitoring system utilizing nanoscaled materials in chemoresistive gas sensors. Chemoresistive sensors leveraging nanostructured metal oxides, such as tin dioxide or zinc oxide, offer high sensitivity and rapid response times due to their large surface-area-to-volume ratio. The proposed framework guides B.Tech students through the design, calibration, and testing of a sensor node. The system architecture integrates these nanostructured sensors with an ESP32 microcontroller to monitor target environmental pollutants, including carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and volatile organic compounds. To address the inherent cross-sensitivity of chemoresistive materials, the implementation methodology incorporates temperature-modulation techniques and software-based compensation algorithms for ambient humidity

and temperature variations. Students receive structured guidance on signal conditioning, analog-to-digital conversion, and sensor calibration using controlled gas chambers. The resulting prototype delivers real-time concentration readings, enabling localized air quality index assessment. This practical framework equips students with the necessary technical documentation and experimental design principles to evaluate the performance, selectivity, and stability of nanostructured gas sensors in real-world environmental monitoring applications.
