Application Finite Control Set–Model Predictive Project Details
| Abstract |
This research addresses the tracking performance degradation near the target brake position in permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives governed by Finite Control Set-Model Predictive Control (FCS-MPC). While FCS-MPC offers intuitive optimization, the low resolution of the output voltage near the standstill braking position typically introduces significant steady-state errors in angular position tracking. To mitigate this, the paper introduces a reference trajectory within the predictive cost function for braking motions, coupled with an alternating speed control procedure. Crucially, the methodology incorporates a finite number of smoothed voltages as candidate vectors for the FCS-MPC algorithm. This modification increases the effective resolution of the output voltage without excessively increasing computational complexity. The
proposed strategy aims to minimize steady-state tracking errors during servo brake operations. For M.Tech students, this paper provides a solid foundation for modeling predictive control strategies in MATLAB/Simulink, offering guidance on designing cost functions and evaluating voltage smoothing techniques in high-precision servo drives.
