Better informing everyday fall risk is a B.Tech project topic for Mining Engineering. It gives students a clear starting point for research, implementation planning, and documentation.
Better informing everyday fall risk Project Details
| Abstract |
Traditional fall risk assessments mostly use subjective clinical checks and miss the realβworld environmental hazards people encounter every day. To fix this, the study proposes a modern method that combines artificial intelligence (AI) with wearable video glasses. The researchers built a framework and tested it in two case studies. First, they trained a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) on a custom set of more than 145,000 images taken from social media. The network learns to automatically recognize and label different terrain and environment types. To protect privacy, the AI outputs short text descriptions of the scene (for example, βindoorβ or βcarpetβ) instead of storing raw video. Second, they gave video glasses
to 19 participants who moved around a university campus, checking how well the system captures data in real life. For engineering students interested in safety and risk assessment, this framework provides a solid base for creating wearable hazardβdetection systems. The study does have limits: it relies on socialβmedia images for training and only tested a small, local group of participants. More validation is needed before the system can be deployed in complex, rugged industrial or mining environments.
