Research precise standardized numerical simulation Project Details
| Abstract |
This research tackles the hard problem of reducing both experiential and discretization errors in CFD simulations of vehicle aerodynamics. It looks at the main reasons numerical results can be off, such as – oversimplified models, – domain size that is too small or too large, – inappropriate boundary conditions, – poor gridβgeneration strategies, and – unsuitable discretization schemes. By studying these issues, the authors create a standard simulation framework. The framework uses two turbulence models: * a modified lowβReynoldsβnumber kβΞ΅ model for steadyβstate flow, and * a ScaleβAdaptive Simulation (SAS) model to capture transient aerodynamic effects. To test the framework, the team ran simulations on two simplified vehicle shapes and
compared the results directly with windβtunnel measurements. The results show that the new approach brings both steadyβstate and transient drag coefficients much closer to the experimental values. Because the full paper was not available, the exact changes made to the lowβReynoldsβnumber kβΞ΅ equations and the detailed dimensions of the simplified vehicle models are not provided. This material gives M.Tech students a clear guide for evaluating, applying, and documenting a standardized CFD workflow for groundβvehicle flow problems.
