Long-Term Leaching Behavior Geochemical Modeling is a M.Tech project topic for Civil Engineering. It gives students a clear starting point for research, implementation planning, and documentation.
Long-Term Leaching Behavior Geochemical Modeling Project Details
| Abstract |
The project examines how safe cement‑solidified fly ash (SFA) is over the long term and how its minerals change. The SFA is made by co‑incinerating waste tires with wood biomass. Using SFA as a roadbed material can replace natural aggregates, but it also contains hazardous metals such as lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), total chromium (T‑Cr), and nickel (Ni). Because of these metals, a thorough, long‑term assessment is needed. We study the chemistry of the leachate, the mineral transformations, and how well the metals stay fixed. The work combines laboratory column leaching tests with samples taken from a five‑year pilot field site. Geochemical modeling tools simulate the
dissolution‑precipitation reactions and the mineral phases that control contaminant release over time. The results show that, even after five years of exposure, heavy‑metal concentrations remain well below regulatory limits. For M.Tech students, the framework offers step‑by‑step guidance on setting up geochemical modeling workflows, analyzing mineral changes with XRD/SEM, and evaluating long‑term leaching kinetics. This supports sustainable solid‑waste management and environmental impact assessments in civil‑engineering projects.
