A Compositional Perspective Communication-Control Co-Design Project Details

Abstract

Next‑generation mobile broadband (Beyond 6G) needs the communication and control parts of a system to work together very tightly so that ultra‑reliable, low‑latency applications can run. Traditional co‑design methods usually rely on a single, large joint‑optimization problem. As the system gets bigger, these methods have trouble: they don’t represent each subsystem in a modular way, they make it hard to trace how requirements flow from one part to another, and they lack a systematic way to check whether a design space is feasible. To overcome these issues, this research looks at a formal compositional theory for communication‑control co‑design. Each subsystem is modeled as a **contract** that states its assumptions and

its guarantees. By using these contracts, we can analyze how the whole system behaves without building one huge optimization model. The framework is tested on a wireless‑assisted robotic‑control example. The study shows how communication limits—such as latency, reliability, and throughput—translate directly into control outcomes like stability and tracking error. This approach gives a clear method for checking design‑space feasibility and for following requirement propagation across different subsystems. The work also provides practical guidance for implementing and simulating contract‑based co‑design, and it compares the scalability and modularity of this method with traditional optimization‑driven techniques in B6G settings.
