Advancements challenges modelling simulations micro-electrical Project Details

Abstract

Micro-Electrical Discharge Machining (micro-EDM) represents a critical non-contact manufacturing technology, enabling the precise fabrication of intricate micro-features across diverse electro-conductive materials. Its versatility extends to various configurations, including sinking, micro-wire, drilling, milling, welding, and reverse EDM, finding applications in industrial, aerospace, biomedical, and electronics sectors. However, the micro-EDM process presents significant challenges due to the complex interplay of electrothermal, mechanical, and fluidic phenomena at the micro-scale, coupled with its inherent stochastic nature. These factors profoundly influence process stability, accuracy, and overall performance. To enhance understanding and optimize these mechanisms, advanced modeling and simulation approaches are increasingly employed alongside experimental methods. This research-oriented project focuses on exploring the literature concerning micro-EDM

modeling and simulations, particularly examining how numerical analysis techniques such as Finite Element Method (FEM), Finite Volume Method (FVM), and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) address critical process aspects. Concurrently, the project aims to identify the complexities, limitations, and unresolved challenges within micro-EDM modeling that require further investigation, especially concerning their utility in developing robust control strategies.
