Brownian motion soft particles near Project Details

Abstract

The way soft nanoparticles move in thick fluids changes a lot when they are close to stretchy surfaces. This matters for things like targeted drug delivery, micro‑fluidic devices, and soft‑robotic parts. In this project we look at a soft polymer micelle that is 10–20 nm in size and sits near a wavy, visco‑elastic lipid bilayer. We use mesoscopic simulations based on dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) to capture the complex interactions between the two soft surfaces. The bilayer’s mechanical behavior is described with the Helfrich model, which includes fluctuations that depend on the wave number. Key points of the study: – Run many independent simulations and track the micelle’s path for

times shorter than the normal diffusion time, matching the membrane’s relaxation time. – Analyze the data to get mean‑squared displacement (MSD), diffusion coefficients, and the effect of hydrodynamic coupling near the moving boundary. The work helps us understand how nanoscale objects travel near fluctuating membranes and provides clear code and documentation for further research in soft‑matter robotics and bio‑hybrid systems.
