Corrosion Performance ASTM A615 Carbon is a M.Tech project topic for Metallurgical & Materials Engineering. It gives students a clear starting point for research, implementation planning, and documentation.
Corrosion Performance ASTM A615 Carbon Project Details
| Abstract |
This M.Tech project outlines plans for an experimental study into the corrosion and mechanical degradation of ASTM A615 grade 60 reinforcing steel bars. The bars will be exposed at bare steel bars at two different chloride environments: natural coastal outdoor environments and an electrically accelerated simulated seawater environment using real Arabian seawater. The goal is to assess the mechanical effects of such pre-embedding exposure, which are especially critical for coastal infrastructure. Up to 270 days of the periodic evaluations that will take place will include visual inspection, mass loss measurement, diameter reduction measurement, and a series of tensile tests to evaluate mechanical property changes. In addition, changes to the morphology
and composition of corrosion products will be analyzed by microstructural characterization via Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The goal of the research direction is to evaluate the comparative corrosion rates and degradation mechanisms resulting from varying exposure severity, especially the loss of cross-section on the mechanical properties of the reinforcing steel bars.
