Diagnostics Hybrid Electrical Machines Electromechanical Project Details
| Abstract |
This project framework tackles the tough problem of fault detection and isolation in Hybrid Electrical Machines (HEMs), with a focus on Permanent Magnet Synchronous Starter Generators (PMSSGs) that run at varying speeds. Traditional spectral analysis and machineβlearning methods often demand heavy computation, so the proposed method avoids that by looking at transient signal changes in a nonβinvasive way. The diagnostic scheme monitors three key physical quantities: – Stator phase currents – Terminal voltages – Rotor angular speed During transient events, the system compares the measured signals to reference trajectories taken from a healthy machine. It then computes an Integrated Fault Index (IFI) using a weighted Euclidean norm of the normalized
signal variations. The IFI provides a continuous, realβtime health assessment and does not require large historical training data sets. A TabularβLogical Diagnostic Model (TLDM) links particular patterns of signal deviation to specific fault types, such as: – Stator winding interβturn short circuits – Inverter powerβswitch failures – Sensorβsubsystem anomalies The framework also includes stepβbyβstep guidance for modeling, simulating, and validating these diagnostic algorithms in MATLAB/Simulink. It offers a solid base for M.Techβlevel research on the reliability of electromechanical drives.
