Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) represent a significant global health threat and are the top cause of death reported by the World Health Organization. This is especially true in low- and middle-income countries where there are few skilled healthcare workers and diagnostic technologies available. A precise and timely diagnosis can prevent many of the life-threatening consequences that can occur from CVD. Unfortunately, most current diagnostic methods are highly invasive, expensive, and require a significant amount of expertise. Therefore, novel, simple, and cost-effective technologies are needed, particularly in cardiac auscultation. This paper presents a digital auscultation system called DigiScope2, which consists of a commercially available stethoscope and a smartphone application that records, processes,

and classifies heart sounds. The system captures and processes raw heart sounds, transforming them into digital signals to facilitate advanced processing techniques and automated classifications. The primary research focus is to develop methodologies for the processing of cardiac signals to provide a clinically useful computer-assisted decision support system for the early detection of CVD.
