From Waste Value Hybrid Decision-Making Project Details
| Abstract |
This study develops a hybrid decision-making framework for the implementation of Industrial Symbiosis (IS) within industrial parks, addressing critical challenges related to resource scarcity and waste generation in the transition towards a circular economy. The proposed methodology integrates several analytical tools: Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods, including AHP, VIKOR, and ELECTRE, are employed for identifying sectoral priorities through expert consultation and survey-based criteria weighting. This is combined with Material Flow Analysis (MFA) to quantify material streams and Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) for optimizing inter-company waste exchange networks. The framework's application in the Manisa Industrial Park successfully identified metal, plastic, plant-based, and chemical sectors as priority domains for IS initiatives. Optimization results
indicated a significant potential for relative improvement, up to 35%, in resource efficiency through optimized waste exchanges. This research provides a replicable decision-support tool, bridging theoretical models with practical applications for enterprises, policymakers, and industrial park administrators, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability and economic performance in alignment with Sustainable Development Goals.
