Impedance Characteristics Activated Carbon Derived Project Details
| Abstract |
This project looks at how to make and test activated carbon from palm shells, an agricultural waste, for renewableβenergy storage. We carbonize the palm shells at temperatures ranging from 300 Β°C to 700 Β°C. Tests show that heating to 600β700 Β°C gives the best material: the fixed carbon content is over 80 %, the microporous structure is well developed, and the surface area is high. Scanning electron microscope images reveal that higher temperatures produce dense, uniform, small carbon particles, indicating complete carbonization. We use electrochemical impedance spectroscopy to assess the carbonβs chargeβstorage ability. At low frequencies the material behaves like an ideal capacitor; at medium frequencies it becomes more resistive
because ion diffusion is limited in the micropores. Overall, the work demonstrates a sustainable way to turn agricultural residues into green electrodes for energyβstorage systems.
