Influence Inverter Open Circuit Fault Project Details
| Abstract |
This project studies how openβcircuit faults in the inverter affect permanentβmagnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives that use vector control. Openβcircuit faults differ from shortβcircuit faults: they often let the machine keep running in a limpβhome mode, which is hard to notice right away but creates longβterm thermal and mechanical stress. To examine these effects, we build a hybrid logicβdynamic model that captures the transient phase currents for different fault combinations. We also create a coupled systemβlevel model of the inverter and motor to see how four specific openβcircuit fault modes change electrical parameters, magneticβfield distribution, rotor speed, electromagnetic torque, and system losses. In addition, we set up a threeβdimensional global
temperature model that links electromagnetic and thermal behavior in both directions. This model tracks how the stator windings and permanent magnets heat up and what temperature limits they reach during faults. The work provides detailed modeling guidance and simulation structures for studying the multiphysics behavior of PMSM drives, helping to design faultβtolerant control, diagnostic algorithms, and thermal protection for safetyβcritical applications.
