Microbial Fuel Cells Sustainable Biofuel Project Details
| Abstract |
Non‑renewable fossil fuels still supply most of the world’s energy, so we need sustainable options such as biofuels. This systematic review looks at how microbial fuel cells (MFCs) can serve as an eco‑friendly way to make a range of bio‑based fuels—biogas, biodiesel, bioethanol, and biobutanol. The study brings together recent work in ten key areas, including: – methods for converting biomass, – choice of feedstock, – microbial strains, – design of MFC components. It shows that improving microbial strains through metabolic engineering and adding advanced nanomaterials can speed up electron transfer and raise overall fuel yields. The review also explains how MFCs can fit into larger biorefinery systems to recover
more resources. MFCs offer a promising, low‑impact route to bioenergy, but scaling them up is still difficult because of high material costs, low power densities, and complex stability issues. The material gives B.Tech students a step‑by‑step guide for designing, testing, and optimizing bench‑scale MFCs. It provides a clear framework for comparing different electrode materials and microbial substrates.
