Mining Waste Asphalt Pavements Critical is a M.Tech project topic for Civil Engineering. It gives students a clear starting point for research, implementation planning, and documentation.
Mining Waste Asphalt Pavements Critical Project Details
| Abstract |
This M.Tech project entails experimentally studying the potential of mining waste, in the form of waste rock and tailings, as an additive in asphalt pavements. The objective of the research is to study the performance of those materials when used as a filler/aggregate within the bitumen mixes. Based on previous research, emphasis will be placed on studying the effects of mining wastes (iron and copper tailings) on certain properties of asphalt pavements. These performance parameters will include high temperature performance (especially the resistance to permanent deformation), fatigue life, resistance to low temperature cracking, and sensitivity to moisture. The project will examine the effects of the physicochemical properties and quantity of
different waste materials on each of those performance indicators. Previous studies have shown improved resistance to permanent deformation, but the results were often contradictory for the other properties, indicating the need for additional testing. This study will help evaluate the applicability of mining wastes as sustainable substitutes for conventional pavement materials, addressing the previously identified knowledge gaps concerning the variability of materials used and the thorough evaluation of the performance of the pavement. The results of this study will aid in evaluating sustainable alternatives for the construction of pavements.
