Multi-year monitoring data subsurface water is a M.Tech project topic for Civil Engineering. It gives students a clear starting point for research, implementation planning, and documentation.
Multi-year monitoring data subsurface water Project Details
| Abstract |
The work looks at how water moves below the surface of canal dikes and builds computer models using several years of field data. Canal dikes in lowβlying areas, like the western Netherlands, can become unstable when extreme weatherβespecially long droughtsβoccurs. To help engineers assess this risk, the project uses a data set collected from 2020 to 2023. The data include soil moisture, hydraulic head, soil temperature, and salinity measured at different points across the dikeβs crossβsection. The record also contains measurements from two unusually dry summers, giving a solid base for studying transient seepage and the stability of unsaturated slopes. The team builds models in finiteβelement software that couple thermal,
hydraulic, and mechanical processes to reproduce how the dike reacts to changing weather. By adding local rainfall, possible evaporation, and borehole profiles, they can calculate poreβwater pressure and suction in the unsaturated zone. This approach helps validate predictive geotechnical models, evaluate how climate change may affect dike safety, and create riskβreduction plans for floodβdefense structures.
