Optimal third-order sliding mode controller Project Details
| Abstract |
Dual star induction motors (DSIMs) present complex control challenges due to their multi-phase nature, parameter variations, and non-linear dynamics. To address these issues, this research direction explores the design and implementation of an optimal third-order sliding mode controller (TOSMC) optimized via the Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm. The third-order sliding mode control strategy is selected to significantly reduce the chattering phenomenon inherent in conventional sliding mode controllers while maintaining robust performance against external disturbances and parameter uncertainties. The GWO algorithm is systematically applied to tune the controller parameters, ensuring optimal dynamic response, minimized tracking errors, and enhanced stability. The mathematical modeling of the DSIM is established in the stationary and
rotating reference frames. Simulation-based evaluation under varying load conditions and speed profiles serves to validate the tracking accuracy and robustness of the proposed GWO-TOSMC scheme. This methodology offers a structured framework for high-performance multi-phase motor control, providing a viable alternative to traditional PI and standard sliding mode control techniques in industrial drive applications.
