requalification static dynamic behaviour curved masonry Project Details
| Abstract |
Assessing the structural integrity of curved masonry structures needs a full understanding of how they behave under static and dynamic loads. This research looks at the constitutive behavior of geomaterials such as concrete, bricks, mortar, and composite masonry assemblies. Experiments, analytical work, and numerical simulations are combined to evaluate the mechanical properties of masonry prisms and curved arches. Special attention is given to how mortar joint composition and bond strength affect the overall response. To capture fullβfield displacement and strain with high precision, twoβdimensional digital image correlation (2DβDIC) is used as a nonβcontact structural health monitoring technique. The feasibility and accuracy of 2DβDIC are validated by comparing its optical data
with results from conventional instruments like linear variable differential transducers (LVDTs) and electricalβresistance strain gauges. Numerical models are developed to simulate damage propagation, failure mechanisms, and dynamic characteristics of the curved structures. This methodology provides a robust framework for reβqualifying and monitoring the health of both historic and modern masonry infrastructure.
