Sap flow data Pinus mugo Project Details
| Abstract |
This paper describes the methodology used to measure sap flow for two prominent treeline species, Pinus mugo (mountain pine) and Alnus alnobetula (green alder), at the treeline ecotone of Mt. Patscherkofel in the Central Tyrolean Alps. The study site is located at 2130 m a.s.l. on a south-facing slope of 35Β° and the site was monitored during the 2024 growing season (DOY 176β268). The geological substrate is gneiss and schist, and the soil is described as Haplic Podzols, typical of the region. Nine mature stems were selected for study; three Alnus alnobetula and six Pinus mugo. The Alnus alnobetula shrubs were on average 21 Β± 8 years old and had
canopy heights of 140β150 cm. The stem diameters at sensor installation points for the sampled specimens ranged between 28 and 67 mm. The heat dissipation method was used to continuously monitor sap flow density. The resulting dataset contains all of the sap flow density measurements for each of the sampled individuals along with the environmental data collected at the study plot. This data serves as a basis for understanding species-specific dynamics of water use in high-alpine environments.
