Techno-feasibility economic & environmental analysis Project Details
| Abstract |
This study examines the techno-economic and environmental potential of building electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure with hybrid renewable energy (HRE) sources in grid-connected operational mode. The rise in the number of electric vehicles (EV) has been caused by rising fossil fuel prices and the urgent need to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from internal combustion engines. Therefore, a robust and sustainable charging infrastructure is required. A primary barrier to EV adoption is the lack of charging infrastructure. To tackle this, the study evaluates the potential of renewable energy in one particular site and creates power-source models based on operating and technical real-time constraints. The optimization process is centered on the
reduction of the following economic indicators: capital and replacement costs, operation, and maintenance (O&M) costs. These reductions aim to achieve the primary goals of lowering the net present cost (NPC) and the cost of energy (COE) and reducing GHG emissions. The load-following (LF) algorithm is used to optimize the hybrid energy configuration for effective and environmentally friendly EV charging. The results of this research provide a solid foundation for the design and assessment of EV charging stations. In addition, they support the objectives of the energy transition and climate change crisis.
