Tuning Piezoresistive Behavior Graphene-Polybenzoxazine Nanocomposites Project Details
| Abstract |
This project studies how to make and test piezoresistive pressure sensors that use a new nanocomposite material. The sensing material is made by mixing chemically reduced graphene oxide (rGO) with a thermally responsive trifunctional polybenzoxazine (PtPA) thermoset precursor. The PtPA precursor comes from tris(3βaminopropyl)amine and phenol. When rGO is dispersed in the polybenzoxazine matrix, it forms an electrically conductive network. The matrixβs stiffness can be changed in a controlled way by heating it to trigger polymerization. This change in stiffness directly affects how the compositeβs resistance varies when it is mechanically deformed. The work looks at two main factors: the ratio of rGO to PtPA and the thermal curing schedule.
Both influence the sensorβs sensitivity and the range over which it works. We set up experimental and analytical methods to measure the electromechanical coupling, track how sensitivity changes, and check the sensorβs stability over many cycles. The results give a clear framework for designing piezoresistive materials on demand. This guidance can help create flexible sensors for wearable electronics, structural health monitoring, and humanβmachine interfaces.
