1. Start With Requirements

List the function, operating environment, accuracy, speed, power, size, interfaces, budget and deadline before naming any component.

2. Read the Official Datasheet

Check recommended operating conditions, absolute maximums, accuracy, timing, package and temperature range. Never design around a marketplace summary.

3. Prove the Power Budget

Match voltage levels and calculate normal, startup and peak current. Include regulator losses, battery life and safe margin before connecting hardware.

4. Check Every Interface

Verify electrical levels, connectors, pin count, protocols, libraries, drivers, dimensions and mounting. Compatible parts must work as one system.

5. Design for the Real Environment

Choose ratings for temperature, moisture, vibration, load and expected life. Then define how you will verify performance in that environment.

6. Build a BOM With Alternatives

Record manufacturer part number, quantity, supplier, price, stock and lead time. Pre-approve substitutes by matching the specifications that matter.

7. Prototype the Riskiest Link

Test the uncertain sensor, power stage or communication path before buying the full set. Measure against requirements, then freeze the design.
