
A resume lists skills. A strong portfolio shows what you built, why you chose it, how you tested it and what changed because of your work.
A professor, internship reviewer and hiring manager may value different evidence. Define the opportunity first, then select the story you need to prove.
Choose a few strong, relevant projects that reveal different abilities. Remove weak repetition and lead with the work closest to your target role.
For every project, connect problem, requirements, constraints, decisions, build, tests, results and next steps. Make the reasoning easy to follow.
For team projects, separate what the team delivered from what you designed, coded, tested or improved. Credit collaborators clearly.
Do not only list CAD, Python or teamwork. Show the schematic, code decision, measurement, presentation or collaboration where each skill produced value.
Use clear navigation, readable images and working links. Add a concise README, demo and setup notes where code or hardware details matter.
Reorder projects for each application, verify every link and update after meaningful work. Ask a mentor to review clarity before you submit.
The strongest portfolio makes your role, decisions, process and results visible enough that a reviewer can judge the work quickly.
