Marine Antimicrobial Peptides Ocean Biodiversity Project Details
| Abstract |
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is growing fast, so we need new drugs. The ocean holds a huge, mostly unexplored source of bioactive compounds. This work looks at computerβbased methods for finding and studying marine antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) using genome mining and multipleβomics data. We combine metagenomic sequences, transcriptome data, and proteomics results to guide the search for peptide candidates with strong therapeutic promise. Machineβlearning models predict each peptideβs stability, toxicity, and ability to kill multiβdrugβresistant microbes. We also use structural modeling and molecularβdynamics simulations to see how the peptides interact with cell membranes at the atomic level, which helps us design and improve them. The workflow moves directly from raw genomic
data to validated lead compounds, cutting out many of the slow steps in traditional bioprospecting. With clear evaluation steps, the pipeline provides a reliable inβsilico screen for marineβderived AMPs, supporting the creation of new biotechnological tools to fight AMR worldwide.
