A Comprehensive Review Thermal Management Project Details
| Abstract |
This project gives a full evaluation and sideβbyβside comparison of thermal management systems (TMSs) for electricβvehicle (EV) battery packs. It looks at how to improve performance, boost safety, and keep the system reliable. We study the heatβremoval ability of several cooling methods: active air cooling, liquidβcooling plates, and passive phaseβchange materials (PCMs). All tests use realistic, changing operating conditions. A lot of attention is paid to lithiumβion batteries during highβrate discharge and fastβcharging. In these situations, small hot spots can cause rapid degradation or even thermal runaway. Using numerical models and transient thermal analysis, we calculate for each cooling approach: – temperature distribution inside the pack – pressure drop across
the cooling path – parasitic power needed to run the system We also examine hybrid setups that combine PCMs with liquid channels. These hybrids aim to reduce extreme temperature differences. The result is a clear framework for picking and tuning the best TMS design. It balances thermal efficiency, system weight, and environmental impact, helping to lengthen battery life and keep the vehicle safe during dynamic driving.
