This project evaluates a conventional, decentralized wastewater‑treatment plant (WWTP) that handles household sewage. Rapid city growth and everyday household use produce large amounts of untreated greywater and blackwater. If these streams flow straight into rivers or lakes they can damage ecosystems and threaten public health. To meet this problem, we built a physical prototype of a multi‑stage WWTP. The plant includes: * a primary sedimentation tank, * a biological filter, and * a secondary clarifier. We tested the system by taking water samples before and after treatment and measuring key quality indicators in the lab: Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), pH, and turbidity.
The results show a strong drop in all pollutant levels after treatment, bringing the effluent into compliance with municipal environmental safety standards. The study also offers practical design tips, component selection advice, and implementation support for community‑scale, decentralized wastewater systems. It provides a scalable approach for local water conservation, environmental protection, and sustainable sanitation infrastructure.
