Flexible networks promote development industrial Project Details
| Abstract |
Ecoβindustrial parks (EIPs) help cut the environmental impact of groups of factories by letting them share energy, water, and materials. Traditional network designs, however, often break down when things change because of politics, climate events, or market shifts. This project looks at a new optimization method that builds flexible resourceβexchange networks for industrial symbiosis. First, it defines a βflexibility thresholdβ β the smallest amount of change in the normal inlet values that the network can still handle. Then, it creates a multiβobjective mathematical model that weighs two things: the total money needed to build the network and how flexible the network is during operation. By running the optimization, we find
the best overall designs that balance capital cost with the networkβs ability to stay resilient. The work gives environmentalβengineering students a clear way to model, test, and set up strong resourceβsharing networks. It shows how to keep circular flows and production running even when conditions arenβt ideal. The resulting models act as a decisionβsupport tool for designing sustainable systems.
