Development Learning Media Hydraulic Demonstrations Project Details

Abstract

This research addresses the pedagogical challenges in teaching closed-loop fluid power systems, where internal fluid dynamics and pressure variations remain invisible to students. Traditional instructional methodologies relying primarily on static textbooks and slide presentations often fail to convey the dynamic behavior of hydraulic circuits. To overcome this limitation, this study outlines the systematic development and evaluation of a physical hydraulic demonstration apparatus designed using the 4D developmental framework (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). The physical apparatus integrates transparent or instrumented components to visualize fluid flow, pressure distribution, and actuator movement under varying load conditions. Methodological validation of the instructional media involves rigorous expert evaluation of technical design, content accuracy, and

practical utility in a laboratory setting. Quantitative assessment metrics demonstrate high validation rates for both structural integrity and content relevance, alongside measurable improvements in student comprehension and practical diagnostic capabilities. This project provides a structured framework for implementing physical and simulation-based hydraulic training rigs, offering mechanical engineering students a hands-on methodology to bridge the gap between theoretical fluid mechanics and practical hydraulic system troubleshooting.
