Improved Processing Circuit MEMS Accelerometer Project Details

Abstract

This project develops and tests an improved signal‑processing interface circuit that captures breathing signals with a MEMS accelerometer. Measuring respiration by detecting abdominal movement is hard because the signals are low‑frequency and low‑amplitude, and they are easily affected by DC offset and drift. To solve this, the hardware adds a low‑pass filter that extracts the DC part of the sensor output, then a differential amplifier subtracts that DC offset and boosts the remaining dynamic breathing signal. The circuit also includes a self‑calibration feature that uses the sensor’s physical position, so it works reliably no matter how the sensor is oriented. This material gives you the parts list and wiring details

for building the analog front‑end, and it lets you study the frequency response and signal‑to‑noise ratio of the processed breathing waveforms. The project is a hands‑on example of biomedical instrumentation, showing how to reduce noise and condition low‑frequency physiological signals.
