Evaluation Prickly Pear Mucilage Opuntia Project Details
| Abstract |
This research project investigates the performance of Opuntia ficus-indica (prickly pear) mucilage as a sustainable, organic plasticizing and densifying admixture in structural concrete. Focusing on a target compressive strength of 280 kg/cmΒ² using regional aggregates, the study evaluates the influence of this natural biopolymer on the fresh and hardened properties of concrete. Experimental methodologies encompass slump testing to assess workability, penetration resistance tests to determine setting times, and gravimetric analysis to evaluate the porous phase and density. Compressive strength development is systematically monitored at curing intervals of 7, 14, and 28 days. Statistical validation of the experimental datasets is performed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) within SPSS software, establishing a
highly predictive model (R_adjustedΒ² = 0.993, p < 0.001). The integration of this organic additive modifies the rheological behavior, consistency, and microstructural density of the concrete matrix. This research provides a structured framework for evaluating bio-admixtures as viable, eco-friendly alternatives to conventional chemical plasticizers, offering valuable guidance for sustainable material selection and structural concrete design in regional construction applications.
