A new fractional-order cascade controller Project Details
| Abstract |
Modern multi-area interconnected power systems face severe frequency regulation challenges due to the integration of intermittent renewable energy sources, reduced system inertia, and complex network dynamics. Conventional PID controllers often fall short under rapid load fluctuations and parametric uncertainties. To address these limitations, this research presents a fractional-order cascaded controller structure combining a Fractional-Order Proportional-Integral-Derivative (FOPID) controller with a One Plus Tilt Fractional-Order Integral Derivative (1 + TFOID) controller, designated as FOPID-(1 + TFOID). The tuning of this multi-parameter cascaded architecture is formulated as an optimization problem solved via the Stellar Oscillation Optimizer (SOO) metaheuristic algorithm. This approach aims to minimize frequency deviations and tie-line power fluctuations under load disturbances.
M.Tech researchers can utilize this framework to study advanced load frequency control (LFC) in MATLAB/Simulink, evaluating the transient response improvements in settling time, overshoot, and undershoot compared to classical optimization techniques like Golden Jackal Optimization (GJO) and Crayfish Optimization Algorithm (COA).
